'SOCIAL SCIENCES RESEARCH IN POST MODERN TIMES’
Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad proudly announces Social Science Conference scheduled to be held on December 28-29, 2016 at Academic Complex, Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad. The conference would be the most significant gathering of social scientists drawn from all over Pakistan across different disciplinary interests in social sciences and humanities. Social Sciences cover diverse aspects of society and cover a wide range of interests in different disciplines under it. The major disciplines under the umbrella of social sciences have distinct methodologies that often justify the preservation of academic boundaries. It is important to understand complex social problems and reinstate the significance of the social sciences by not only highlighting their increasing relevance in today’s context, but also by pointing to their indispensability in laying the foundations of an analytical and creative mindset. It would serve as a platform for presenting new knowledge and insights, re-thinking received wisdom, charting new directions, promoting innovation in the research-policy-action nexus, and nurturing new academic partnerships.
Research in Social Sciences in Pakistan is need of the era due to present social, economic and political conditions. Although the challenges are big, Pakistan has potential to solve all these problems by exercising appropriate social, economic and political strategies. Need of the time is to grasp challenges and develop the strategies and insight into the academic and practical efforts by research scholars.
The conference aims at providing theoretical perspectives and empirical research upon which sound national social, economic and political policy can be devised. A meaningful gathering of Scholars and policy-oriented intellectuals of the social sciences for intellectually coherent and action-oriented research agenda is the basic need to address above mentioned complexities of Pakistan. The conference also aims in consideration and integration of gender perspectives in individual reference disciplines of social sciences which is need of 21stcentury.
